  • It can reach 32 km/h — over the 25 km/h limit for e-scooters in Queensland. Check its app or settings: if it can be locked so it can’t go faster than 25 km/h, it’s legal while limited. If not, it counts as an unregistered motor vehicle.

  • ✓ Riders 16+ need at least a learner licence in Queensland (from 31 August 2026).

  • Minimum age: 16, with at least a learner licence (from 31 August 2026). Supervised exemptions for 12–17-year-olds.

Common questions

Is a 40 km/h e-scooter legal?

Not as sold in most states. In Queensland, Victoria, WA, Tasmania and the ACT an e-scooter must not be able to go faster than 25 km/h, so a 40 km/h scooter is only legal there while it is limited to 25 km/h. South Australia sets no device top speed but has rider limits and a 45 kg weight limit.

Does motor power (watts) matter for e-scooters?

Mostly no — states limit speed and weight, not power. The exceptions are the Northern Territory (200 W or less) and under-16s in Tasmania (200 W, 10 km/h).

Can I ride my e-scooter in NSW?

Not in public as of October 2026 — private e-scooters can only be ridden on private property in NSW. Hire scooters are allowed in trial areas.
