Battery rules
Every e-bike battery holds 300–1700 Wh. Lithium batteries over 100 Wh cannot be posted in Australia, by air or by road, loose or fitted.
What that means here
- Batteries over 100 Wh — every e-bike battery — are pickup only, and show only to buyers in the seller’s region (set your postcode to see them).
- Battery listings are not shown in New South Wales, where e-bike batteries and chargers each need their own safety approval mark in the listing. Charger listings are hidden there too.
- Swollen, leaking, burnt or case-damaged packs, and packs without a working BMS, are never listable, not even for parts.
- A pack rebuilt with non-original cells must say so, and is graded no better than Worn – Working.
- Battery hardware with no cells — mounts, locks, BMS boards, cell holders — posts normally.
- Between verified businesses that hold a dangerous-goods carrier account, batteries can move in the trade lane.
Collecting a battery
- Look at it before you pay. Any bulge, crack, burn mark or smell — walk away.
- Ask to see the state of health on the display or the maker’s app.
- Carry it in a car, not in a bag on your back, and charge it on a hard surface away from exits the first time.
