EbikeMate

Found an e-bike?

If it has an EbikeMate label, scan the QR code with your phone camera. Or type the code printed under it, or the bike’s EMID.

  1. Look it up. You’ll see the bike’s make, model and whether it’s reported stolen or lost — never the owner’s name or contact details.
  2. Message the owner privately. Use I found this bike. Your message is forwarded by email; neither of you sees the other’s address unless you choose to share it.
  3. Stay safe. Never confront anyone, and don’t try to take a bike back from someone.

If it’s reported stolen

Don’t approach anyone with it. Note where and when you saw it and call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 (or 000 in an emergency). You can also send the owner a message — they’ll pass it to police.

If it looks abandoned

Leave it where it is if it’s safe, message the owner, and note the location. If it’s blocking a path or road, contact your local council. Handing a found bike to police is also an option.

If the battery is damaged

Keep away from a battery that is smoking, swollen, leaking or hot. If there’s smoke or fire, move away and call 000.

No label?

Look for the frame serial — usually stamped under the frame where the pedals attach — and check it. A registered serial lets you message the owner too.

Where are you?

Your postcode decides what you can see. Batteries are pickup only, so they only show to buyers near the seller, and some items are not shown in every state.
