常见问题
Is a 40 km/h e-scooter legal?
Not as sold(most states. In Queensland, Victoria, WA, Tasmania and the ACT an e-scooter must not be able to go faster than 25 km/h, so a 40 km/h scooter is only legal there while it is limited to 25 km/h. South Australia sets no device top speed but has rider limits and a 45 kg weight limit.)
Does motor power (watts) matter for e-scooters?
Mostly no — states limit speed and weight, not power. The exceptions are the Northern Territory (200 W or less) and under-16s(Tasmania (200 W, 10 km/h).)
Can I ride my e-scooter(NSW?)
Not(public as of October 2026 — private e-scooters can only be ridden on private property in NSW. Hire scooters are allowed in trial areas.)
EbikeMate is independent and not a government service. Rules last checked 16 October 2026 — general information, not legal advice. Check the official sources on each state page.
