常見問題

Are e-scooters legal(Australia?)

Privately owned e-scooters are legal(public in Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT, within each state’s limits. In New South Wales they can only be ridden on private property, and in the Northern Territory only low-powered (200 W, 10 km/h) scooters are allowed — as of October 2026.)

Can I register my e-scooter?

No state requires registration for a legal e-scooter, but you can record it free on EbikeMate: an E-scooter Passport keeps the serial number, photos and receipt(one private place, lets you flag it stolen in one tap, and lets buyers check it before they pay.)

How do I check if a second-hand e-scooter is stolen?

Ask the seller for the serial number, check it on EbikeMate’s free check, match it to the sticker on the scooter, and ask for the receipt.

What is the speed limit for e-scooters?

In most states the scooter must not be able to go faster than 25 km/h. Riders have lower limits on footpaths: 10 km/h(WA and SA, 12 km/h in Queensland, 15 km/h in Tasmania and the ACT; Victoria bans footpaths and limits riders to 20 km/h.)

EbikeMate is independent and not a government service. Rules last checked 16 October 2026 — general information, not legal advice. Check the official sources on each state page.
