A used e-bike is usually worth about half its new price after two years, but the battery, the brand and the paperwork can move that a long way either way. Here’s how value works, and how to get a quick estimate for your own bike.

How fast e-bikes lose value
E-bikes lose the most(the first year — the warranty and a brand-new battery go with the first owner — then less each year. Brand-name bikes with mid-drive motors and dealer support hold value better than unbranded hub-motor bikes.)
| Age | Brand-name (e.g. Giant, Trek, Tern) | Budget / unbranded |
|---|---|---|
| 6 months | 關於 78% of new price | 關於 73% |
These are private-sale figures for a bike(good condition, from EbikeMate’s rule-of-thumb value model — the same one behind our) free value tool. They’re a starting point, not sales data: a popular model(demand can sell for more, an odd one for less.)
What moves the price
- 電池健康度。 The biggest single factor — a new battery is often $600 to $1,500 (see battery costs). Above 90% health adds a little; between 70% and 80% takes about 7% off; under 70% about 16%.
- Condition. “Good, normal wear” is about 10% below “as new”; scratches and worn parts about 23% below; a bike that needs fixing about 42% below.
- 里數。 Under 1,000 km adds a little; over 10,000 km takes about 10% off.
- Receipt. Proof of purchase adds about 3% — and buyers trust it.
- Service history. A full history adds about 4%; none at all on a bike over a year old takes about 4% off. See what a service costs.
- Wear parts. Worn pads, tyres and chain are easy for a buyer to spot and price(— see) what they cost.
- Legal power. An “unlocked” or derestricted e-bike may not be road-legal, which shrinks the pool of buyers. See 各州電動單車法例.
Private sale vs trade-in
Selling privately gets you the most. A shop trade-in is usually about 60% to 70% of the private price, because the shop has to service, warranty and resell the bike — but it’s quicker and you don’t deal with strangers.
Get the best price
- Get the battery health checked (the maker’s app, or a shop’s diagnostic) and show it(the ad.)
- Have it serviced, and keep the receipt.
- Take clear daylight photos, including the frame serial and the display showing the kilometres.
- Register it on EbikeMate first — buyers can check the serial and see the bike is yours to sell. See how to sell your e-bike fast.

常見問題
How much is a 2-year-old e-bike worth?
As a rule of thumb, about half its new price(good condition: around 56% for a brand-name bike and around 44% for a budget one. Battery health, kilometres and service history can move it either way.)
Do e-bikes hold their value?
Brand-name e-bikes with mid-drive motors and dealer support hold value better than unbranded hub-motor bikes. All e-bikes lose the most(the first year.)
How much does battery health affect an e-bike’s value?
A lot, because a new battery often costs $600 to $1,500. In EbikeMate’s model, health between 70% and 80% takes about 7% off the price and under 70% about 16%.
Should I trade(or sell privately?)
Selling privately usually gets you more. A shop trade-in is typically about 60% to 70% of the private price, but it’s faster and simpler.
