Check an e‑bike or e‑scooter
Buying a used e‑bike or e‑scooter? Check it before you pay.
Enter a frame or scooter serial, battery or motor serial, or EMID to see if it’s registered, verified, or reported stolen. Owner details are never shown.
No record found for H0104001
Nobody has registered this serial or reported it stolen on EbikeMate. That does not prove the bike isn’t stolen — it may simply not be registered yet.
Buying it? Check the serial on the frame matches, ask for the receipt, meet somewhere public — and once it’s yours, register it in your name. Used e-bike checklist →
What your result means
- Reported stolen
- Don’t pay and don’t confront the seller. Save the listing link, the seller’s profile and screenshots. Tell the police on 131 444 (000 in an emergency), or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000. Owner details are never shown to you.
- Registered or verified
- The bike has a Bike Passport. Ask the seller to transfer the Bike Passport to you when you pay — a genuine owner can do it in a minute. The verification line on the report says what evidence we hold.
- No record found
- Not good or bad on its own: most bikes aren’t registered anywhere yet. Also check the other community registers, such as BikeVAULT and, in WA, the ACT and Tasmania, Bikelinc. Ask for the receipt and run the used e-bike buying check.
- No serial, or it looks filed off
- Treat it as a serious red flag. Walk away, or ask for proof of purchase that shows the serial.
Before you pay
- Ask for the frame serial before you travel, and check it here.
- Meet in daylight somewhere public — many police stations have a safe spot out the front.
- Match the serial on the frame to the ad and the receipt, and check the battery, charger and keys come with it.
- Pay at handover with a method you can trace — or with Secure Pay on EbikeMate listings. Never a deposit by bank transfer, gift card or crypto.
- Once it’s yours, get the Bike Passport transferred, or register it in your name.

Questions buyers ask
Is a clear result a guarantee the bike isn’t stolen?
No. A clear result means there is no active theft report for that serial in EbikeMate records. A bike may never have been registered or reported, so use the check together with the receipt, the frame serial and your own judgement.
Is EbikeMate a police or government register?
No. EbikeMate is an independent Australian registry. It doesn’t replace a police report or any government registration. If you think a bike is stolen, tell the police on 131 444.
Does Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree check for stolen bikes?
No. Marketplace sites don’t check serial numbers. Ask the seller for the frame serial and check it here before you travel or pay.
Where do I find the serial number?
Usually stamped under the bottom bracket, where the cranks meet the frame. Battery and motor serials are on their own labels. See our guide to finding your e-bike’s serial number.
