An error code on your e-scooter’s display means the scooter has found a fault, and it has usually cut or limited the motor to protect itself. Some codes clear after a restart. Others mean stop riding and see a workshop. This guide covers common codes on Xiaomi و Segway-Ninebot scooters, taken from each maker’s own published material.
The short version
- Error codes are model-specific. The same number can mean different things on different scooters — check your model’s manual or app first.
- Safe to try: switch off, wait 30 seconds, then switch on without touching the throttle or brake levers. Many codes (a throttle or brake not at rest at power-on, communication glitches) clear this way.
- Stop and don’t ride if the code is about the battery, controller or motor, or if the scooter smells hot, smokes, swells or makes noise. Unplug the charger and move it away from anything that burns. Fire or smoke → call 000.
- Don’t open the battery — Segway’s manual says it isn’t user-replaceable. See e-scooter battery safety.
Try this first (2 minutes)
- Power off. Wait 30 seconds. Power on with your hands off the throttle and brakes.
- Check the brake levers and throttle spring back fully — a lever caught on a bag or a lock is a common cause of “brake” and “throttle” codes.
- If it shows after a fall, rain or a wash: let it dry for 24 hours before you try again, and don’t charge it wet.
- Open the maker’s app (Xiaomi Home / Mi Home, or the Segway-Ninebot app) — it shows the code and a description for your exact model.
- If the code comes back, write it down (or photograph the display) — a workshop will ask for it.
Xiaomi: common codes (Electric Scooter 6 Pro)
From Xiaomi Global Support’s error-code article for the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 6 Pro (KA-696936). Xiaomi marks every code in this table as “do not ride” except 56. Other Xiaomi models may use different codes — check your own manual or the Xiaomi Home app.
| Code (Xiaomi 6 Pro) | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | Display and controller aren’t talking | Restart; if it stays, workshop (cable, display or controller) |
| 11 | Controller overcurrent protection | Restart; if it stays (especially after water), workshop |
| 14 | Throttle not at rest when switched on | Let go of the throttle and restart; workshop if it’s stuck or damaged |
| 15 | Brake lever not at rest when switched on | Free the lever and restart; workshop if it stays |
| 18 | Motor Hall sensor fault | Workshop (wiring, motor or controller) |
| 21 | Controller can’t talk to the battery | Workshop. Xiaomi notes a non-matching or third-party battery can cause it |
| 28 / 29 | Controller hardware short (MOS bridge) | Don’t ride — workshop (controller replacement) |
| 39 | Battery temperature sensor fault | Don’t ride or charge — workshop (battery/BMS) |
| 53 | Battery cells out of balance | Don’t ride — workshop (battery) |
| 54 | Battery too hot while charging | Unplug and let it cool somewhere safe; workshop if it repeats |
| 56 | Battery too hot while riding | Stop and let it cool; Xiaomi says riding is allowed once it’s back to normal |
| 58 | Charging overcurrent | Unplug; check the charger and cable for damage; use the original charger |
| 59 | Discharge overcurrent | Restart; workshop if it repeats |
Segway-Ninebot: common codes (E2 Pro)
From the “Common Failures” section of the Segway E2 Pro product manual. Codes differ between Segway models (for example the Max G30/G2, F-series and GT) — the Segway-Ninebot app shows the meaning for yours.
| Code (Segway E2 Pro) | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | Dashboard communication fault | Check and restart; workshop for the cables or dashboard |
| 11 / 12 / 13 | Motor current sampling fault (phase A/B/C) | Workshop (controller) |
| 14 | Throttle Hall sensor fault | Workshop (throttle, dashboard or cable) |
| 15 | Brake Hall sensor fault | Free the lever and restart; workshop if it stays |
| 18 | Motor Hall sensor fault | Workshop (controller/motor) |
| 21 | Battery communication fault | Workshop |
| 23 | Battery has a default serial number | Segway after-sales or an authorised repairer |
| 35 | Scooter serial number is wrong | Segway after-sales or an authorised repairer |
Left out on purpose: Segway codes 39–54 (the manual’s English list doesn’t line up with its code table, so we couldn’t match them reliably), fleet and rental-only codes, and Kugoo, Kukirin and generic-controller codes (we found no official lists). Other brands: check the manual, or find your brand on EbikeMate.
When to book a repair
- The code comes back after a restart, or it’s a battery, controller or motor code.
- After water, a fall or a kerb hit.
- The brakes feel weak or noisy, a tyre keeps going flat, or the stem or folding latch wobbles — these don’t always show a code, but they’re among the most common workshop jobs.

Bring the code, the model and the serial — it saves diagnostic time. Warranty repairs go through the brand’s authorised service.

Don’t “fix” it with firmware mods
Custom or “unlocked” firmware, speed hacks and non-matching batteries can trigger codes (Xiaomi notes a third-party battery can cause code 21, and Segway lists battery and scooter serial errors), may void the warranty, and can make the scooter illegal to ride. Most states limit how fast the scooter itself can go — in Queensland it must be limited to 25 km/h, and older scooters must be limited by 28 February 2027. هل سكوتري الكهربائي قانوني؟ · Legal e-scooter models · قوانين السكوترات الكهربائية حسب الولاية. أسئلة شائعة
Why does my scooter show an error only when I switch it on?
Often a brake lever or the throttle isn’t fully released. On the Xiaomi 6 Pro, codes 14 and 15 mean the throttle or a brake lever wasn’t at rest at switch-on; on the Segway E2 Pro, 14 and 15 are throttle and brake sensor faults. Let go and restart. If it stays, the lever, throttle or cable may need replacing.
Can I keep riding with an error code?
Usually not: Xiaomi marks almost all of the 6 Pro’s codes as “do not ride”. Battery, controller and motor codes especially mean stop.
Does the same code mean the same thing on every scooter?
No. Numbers are set by each maker and can change between models. Use your manual or the maker’s app.
Will a workshop fix error codes on a Xiaomi or Segway?
Many independent e-scooter repairers do; warranty repairs go through the brand’s authorised service. Bring the code, the model and the serial.
