E-scooters need less work than a car but more than most people expect — punctures, brakes and a loose folding stem are the usual jobs, and a battery is the big one. These ranges come from Australian repair shops’ own published price lists (Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide) that we read on 16 October 2026. They are a guide, not quotes: prices vary by model and shop, and many shops charge parts on top.

Batteries: Queensland’s Electrical Safety Office advises buying replacement batteries and chargers from the original manufacturer where possible and never modifying or repairing batteries yourself. The NSW Government says never use a second-hand battery. Fire and Rescue NSW says battery work should be done by an experienced mechanic.

How often should an e-scooter be serviced?

Neither Xiaomi nor Segway publishes a service interval in kilometres or months. Their manuals ask you to check the scooter before every ride, tighten the folding mechanism if the stem wobbles, keep tyres at the right pressure (Xiaomi suggests checking monthly) and store the battery part-charged, topping it up at least every two months if you don’t ride. Many shops suggest a service once or twice a year for regular commuters.

Jobs you can check yourself

  • Tyre pressure — the number is in the manual or on the tyre.
  • Stem wobble — the folding hinge loosens with use; the manual shows which screws to tighten.
  • Brakes — they should bite well before the lever touches the bar.
  • Lights, bell and reflectors — required for night riding in most states.
  • Leave anything electrical — battery, controller, wiring, speed limiter — to a shop. Changing the speed limiter can also make a scooter illegal to ride in public.

Before you book

  1. Note the model and serial number — the shop needs the model to order parts, and the serial proves it’s yours.
  2. Ask if the shop repairs your brand — some only service scooters they sold.
  3. Ask whether the price includes parts and GST, and if the diagnosis fee comes off the repair.
  4. Keep the invoice — add it to your E-scooter Passport as service history. It helps when you sell.
