You can sell a used e-scooter privately — on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree or EbikeMate. Buyers worry about three things: the battery, whether it’s stolen, and whether it’s legal where they live. Answer those in your ad and you’ll sell faster and for a better price.

1. Tamang presyo

  • Search for the same model (not just the brand) in 5–10 ads near you and note the asking prices. Sold prices are often lower than asking prices.
  • What moves the price: battery health and range, the kilometres on the display, tyres (solid, or new tubes), play in the stem or folding latch, scratches, and whether you have the charger, receipt and box.
  • A scooter without its charger or with a weak battery sells for much less — buyers price in the replacement. See e-scooter repair costs.

2. Kunan ang mga larawang gusto ng mamimili

  • Both sides of the whole scooter, folded and unfolded, in daylight
  • The display switched on, showing the kilometres (odometer)
  • The deck, tyres and brakes up close
  • The serial number sticker (cover a few characters if you like — EbikeMate ads show only the last 4)
  • The charger, and every scratch or crack — honesty sells

3. Be clear about the speed limit, weight and where it can be ridden

Buyers in some states need to know this before they buy:

  • Queensland: e-scooters must be limited to 25 km/h. Scooters made after 1 July 2026 must be limited by software or hardware; owners of older scooters that can go faster have until 28 Pebrero 2027 to apply a limit (Queensland Government). Say in your ad whether yours is limited and how. The 25 km/h deadline explained.
  • WA: e-scooters must weigh 25 kg or less — put the weight in your ad.
  • NSW: private e-scooters can’t yet be ridden on public roads or paths. NT: only low-powered scooters (200 W, 10 km/h). Don’t describe a scooter as “road legal” if it isn’t.
  • Rules by state: legal e-scooters at e-scooter laws by state. Buyers can run the free e-scooter legal check.

4. Queensland: don’t sell to anyone under 16

Since 1 July 2026 it’s illegal in Queensland to sell an e-mobility device (including an e-scooter) to anyone under 16 — this includes private sales. Private sellers must take reasonable steps to make sure the buyer is at least 16, and ask for proof of age if they look younger. Fines are up to $2,417 (Queensland Government, “Rules for selling e-mobility devices”).

5. Register it first — and remove it from your app

  • Register the serial free before you list. Your EbikeMate ad then shows “Registered to this seller”, and buyers can check the serial isn’t reported stolen. On Facebook or Gumtree, paste your scooter’s Trust Report link (open it in Mga bike ko and use Copy text for my ad) — buyers see it’s registered and not reported stolen, never your name or contact details.
  • App pairing: many scooters (for example Xiaomi and Segway-Ninebot) are linked to the owner’s phone app. Show the buyer it’s in your app, then remove it from your account in front of them so they can add it to theirs. Xiaomi’s own steps: delete the scooter in the Xiaomi Home app, then reset the scooter (Xiaomi support KA-509211). Other brands: follow the maker’s instructions. A scooter still locked to your account may be unusable for the buyer.

6. Reply fast, meet safely, get paid safely

  • Reply quickly — the first good reply usually wins.
  • Meet in daylight in a public place. Let them test it somewhere safe and legal (not a footpath in NSW). Hold their ID or keep their phone while they ride, if you like.
  • PayID scam warning: a “buyer” says your PayID needs a “business account” upgrade, sends a fake email and asks you to pay them back. NAB says PayID has no fees and never contacts you directly — any message “from PayID” is a scam. Never pay anything to receive money.
  • Take payment before the scooter leaves: cash counted in person, or a bank transfer you can see in your own banking app (not a screenshot or an email). Never accept overpayments or courier pickups you didn’t arrange.
  • Write a short receipt: date, price, both names, model and serial. Keep a copy.

7. After it’s sold

Transfer the E-scooter Passport to the buyer — it passes on the serial, photos and service history, and the scooter stays protected.

Mga karaniwang tanong

Can I sell my e-scooter to a 15-year-old in Queensland?

No. Since 1 July 2026 it’s illegal in Queensland to sell an e-scooter to anyone under 16, including in a private sale. Ask for proof of age if the buyer looks under 16; fines are up to $2,417.

Do I need to limit my e-scooter to 25 km/h before selling it in Queensland?

The rule is on the device: e-scooters in Queensland must be limited to 25 km/h, and owners of older, faster scooters have until 28 February 2027 to apply a limit. Tell buyers whether yours is limited — it affects whether they can ride it legally.

How do I remove my e-scooter from my app before selling?

Delete it from your account in the maker’s app, then reset the scooter if the maker says to (for Xiaomi: delete it in Xiaomi Home, then reset). Do it in front of the buyer so they can pair it with their phone.

What’s the safest way to get paid for a used e-scooter?

Cash counted in person, or a bank transfer you can see in your own banking app before the scooter leaves. Be wary of any buyer who asks you to pay a fee to receive money — PayID has no fees.
