How we decide. A pedal-assist e-bike is road legal in Australia when its motor has at most 250 W continuous rated power and stops assisting at 25 km/h; a throttle may only work up to 6 km/h in most states. These lists use the specs makers and retailers publish — check the label on the actual bike. In Queensland every e-bike also needs an EN 15194 (or Legacy EPAC) compliance label from 1 March 2027. 22 fat tyre e-bikes whose specs exceed the limits

These are listed with more than 250 W rated power or assistance above 25 km/h, so they aren’t road-legal pedal-assist e-bikes — fine on private property, but police can seize illegal e-bikes on public roads and paths.
