Buying or selling a mobility scooter?

Gather the exact model details, measurements and current condition before you compare a used mobility scooter or prepare one for sale. Keep unknown details marked as unknown, and ask a suitable supplier about anything that needs checking.

Build a useful device record.

Identity and documents

Record the manufacturer, model, variant, wheel configuration and serial privately. Keep the current manual, purchase evidence and service records together. Redact names, addresses and identifying documents from public photos.

Dimensions and weight

Record length, width, ground clearance and the maker’s turning measurement with units. Label turning radius or diameter explicitly. Keep weight with batteries, weight without batteries, heaviest removable piece and maximum user weight as separate figures. Leave unknown figures unknown.

Battery and charger

Record battery chemistry, number of batteries, labelled voltage and capacity, age if known, and charger model. Explain how any condition or capacity result was measured and when. Matching voltage or a plug shape alone does not establish compatibility.

Describe condition without promising suitability.

Show wear and faults

Use clear current photos of the device and each disclosed defect. Describe controls, tyres, seat, armrests, lights and charging behaviour. Say what was actually checked, by whom and when; do not label an unchecked item “tested”.

Keep evidence in context

Distinguish manufacturer-published figures, seller measurements and professional assessments. Published range is not a used battery test. An e-bike grade does not certify a mobility scooter or its suitability for a particular person.

Put safety before a sale

Disclose damage, modifications and known faults. Do not use a test ride to diagnose a potentially unsafe device. Stop use or charging if a battery is damaged or overheating; follow the exact manufacturer’s instructions and seek appropriate specialist advice.

Before you commit.

  • Ask a suitable mobility professional or supplier about your needs, controls, seating and the exact device.
  • Compare measured doorways, storage and transport space with the correct dimensions. Check lifting arrangements and any transport provider’s requirements separately.
  • Ask for the history, current condition evidence, included accessories, charger details and any unresolved repairs.
  • Check manufacturer recalls and model-specific documentation. Confirm replacement parts against the exact revision and existing part number.
  • Verify ownership evidence privately. A serial or receipt alone does not establish legal title.
  • Agree inspection, collection or suitable transport arrangements before paying. Do not infer a booking, payment protection or inspection service from this checklist.

These checks do not establish medical suitability, funding eligibility, airline permission or legal use.

Where are you?

Your postcode decides what you can see. Batteries are pickup only, so they only show to buyers near the seller, and some items are not shown in every state.
