The rules tại Sydney
- NSW is moving to the European standard (EN 15194, 250 W). From 1 March 2029 only e-bikes meeting it will be road legal; 500 W e-bikes bought legally under the old rules have a transition period. NSW e-bike laws
- Footpaths: only riders under 16, or an adult riding with someone under 16, may ride on the footpath, with limited exceptions.
- A minimum riding age is under review (between 12 and 16) but not yet set. Helmets are required.

Taking your e-bike on public transport
- Trains and Metro: bikes travel free at any time — Transport for NSW suggests avoiding peak hour. On Metro use the multi-purpose areas tại the first and last carriages.
- Converted e-bikes are banned on Sydney Trains, NSW TrainLink and Metro since 1 November 2025 — $400 fine, up to $1,100. Factory-built and share e-bikes are fine.
- Ferries and light rail: free when there’s room (crew can refuse). Buses: no bikes.
Main bikeways and paths
- Sydney Harbour Bridge cycleway ramp — a 3 m ramp replacing the 55 stairs at the northern end, opened January 2026.
- Bourke Street cycleway — the city’s busiest, averaging 1,758 trips a day (March 2025). Also College Street, King Street and Oxford Street cycleways.
- Parramatta Valley Cycleway và The Bay Run.

- Transport for NSW bike sheds at stations are free and open with your Opal card (about 20–50 bikes each).
