The rules sa Brisbane

  • Legal e-bikes: 250 W maximum, motor help stops at 25 km/h, throttle only to 6 km/h, and an EN 15194 compliance label (or Legacy EPAC label) required from 1 March 2027. Label rules
  • Since 31 August 2026 riders must be 16+ with at least a learner licence, except supervised 12–17 year olds and on rail trails and MTB trails. Licence rules

Taking your e-bike on public transport

  • Trains: any time, first or last carriage of six-car trains, max two bikes per carriage. No hire e-bikes. Mga detalye
  • Buses and trams: no bikes, unless folded into a bag no bigger than 90 × 70 × 36 cm.
  • CityCats and ferries: yes, if there’s room, at staff discretion — walk it on.

Main bikeways and paths

Secure bike parking

  • Cycle2City sa King George Square (members): 420 racks, lockers and 35 showers.
  • Council has more than 400 bike racks across the city, usable for e-bikes; bike shelters need an access card with a $41.30 refundable deposit.
  • Queensland Rail bike lockers and enclosures at more than 120 SEQ stations — free with a $50 deposit, 18+.

Do you need a licence to ride an e-bike sa Brisbane?

Yes. Since 31 August 2026 Queensland riders must be 16 or older and hold at least a learner licence, with exemptions for supervised 12–17 year olds, rail trails and MTB trails, and some medical conditions.

Can you take an e-bike on the train sa Brisbane?

Yes, at any time on Translink trains — first or last carriage of six-car trains, maximum two bikes per carriage. Not on buses or trams.

What is the best bikeway sa Brisbane?

For commuting, the Bicentennial Bikeway (river, Toowong to the CBD), the V1 Veloway (south) and the North Brisbane Bikeway are the main routes. For a long flat ride, try the Kedron Brook or Bulimba Creek bikeways (about 20 km each).
